Horseshoe
A horseshoe is perhaps one of the oldest lucky symbols with various legends describing its good luck-giving powers.
According to one legend, horseshoes are lucky because they were traditionally made of iron. Mischievous fairies couldn’t stand the feel of iron, so they avoided houses with horseshoes made of iron.
Another tale associates lucky horseshoes with Saint Dunstan, a historical figure who died in 988 AD. As per the legend, the devil commanded the blacksmith Dunstan to shoe his horse. Dunstan, on the other hand, nailed a horseshoe to the devil’s foot. He only agreed to remove it and relieve the devil’s pain if the devil promised that he would avoid any house with a horseshoe on the door. As a result, any home with a horseshoe was bound to be lucky.
While we can’t attest to the validity of the legends, one thing is for sure: Adorning yourself with a horseshoe pendant is one way to make yourself feel protected and optimistic.
